In this technological world one of the general method for user to save their data is cloud. We believe that the present analysis of Personal Clouds is of interest to researchers and developers with diverse concerns about Cloud storage, since our observations can help them to understand and characterize the nature of these services. Our measurement, conducted during two months, is the first to deeply analyze many facets of these popular services and reveals new insights, such as important performance differences among providers, the existence of transfer speed daily patterns or sudden service breakdowns. Actively accessing to free accounts through their REST APIs, we analyzed important aspects to characterize their QoS, such as transfer speed, variability and failure rate. In this paper, we present a measurement study of three major Personal Clouds: DropBox, Box and SugarSync. However, despite their broad adoption, very little is known about the quality of service (QoS) of Personal Clouds. The Personal Cloud model is a mainstream service that meets the growing demand of millions of users for reliable off-site storage.
This paper tries to simplify the CSP selection process for users by analyzing and comparing fundamental features and aspects of five major CSPs: Google Drive, Dropbox, Box, OneDrive, and MEGA based on metrics of Security, Storage Space and Bandwidth, Reliability, and Cross-Platform Compatibility.
Such high competition resulted in a sheer number of providers to choose from, which presented a perplexing decision to make especially for the less technically proficient users, leading them to an uninformed choice, and eventually being stuck in the ecosystem probably for years before thinking of changing their provider.
Free tier personal cloud storage services adoption and usage has significantly increased among end users over the past years, leading to an overwhelming number of Cloud Service Providers (CSP's) competing to acquire the largest user share for different purposes such as user retention, monetization, brand awareness, ecosystem promotion, and data analysis, in exchange for offering competitive free tier plans to users.
